Chapter 1: Week 1

So, the first week of my new life has passed by and just in that week SO many amazing things happened. I was hired as a Production Assistant for Urban Outfitters Sweaters, which I am too excited to start on September 9th. I sold my tickets to Made in America to spend the Labor day weekend at home with my family, and I feel more ready than ever to take on my training for the Philly half marathon on November 17. I also learned that my family may vacation in the Adirondacks over the holidays AND possibly a Caribbean trip in January or February, which is even more of an incentive to get my (not so) little butt back in action. Although I may not have been as dedicated as I had hoped for my first week, I am still so excited for the fall and for new things to come.

My Declaration...

I created this blog to keep record of my journey back to who I am, or rather, who I was before red solo cups, drunk texts, and four lokos. Back to my independent self that slipped away with my foggy drunken nights, assignment deadlines, and mostly my college years. And I believe I am still on the path that I started a couple months ago, I think just lost my drive and my focus, while getting caught up in the midsummer's heat. So with summer's end on the horizon, I am making a declaration for myself, a promise that I will become fit and healthy. I once heard that life is all about manifestations. So, here it is: I'm declaring August 26, 2013 as the first day of the rest of my life, the way that I want to live and the way I want to be. It will be the official start date of my journey.

This journey entails getting myself back into shape, eating healthy, reading more, loving myself first, and becoming the person that I want to be. I have had this idea in my head since I can remember, wanting to be a better person. And I'm done wanting it, I will become it.

DIY: White Washing

There is nothing better than exploring a sea of unwanted "junk" in search for hidden treasures. Oh wait, I stand corrected, finding a hidden treasure in a sea of unwanted things is better. If you have been following my blog from my first post, or if you have read my first post, you know that I recently moved in with my best friend. It's been nothing short of amazing, but alas, two of the most indecisive people paired together can really make decorating difficult. In the early weeks of June, my mother and I found an old, somewhat ugly coffee table for $20 at our local church's summer fair. Normally, I would have stuck up my nose, made some off comment and moved on, but my recent itch for crafting stopped me. Instead of seeing an ugly brown coffee table, I saw so much more (I like to think there's an artist in me...) So after no hesitation, I handed over Mr. Jackson and happily went on my way. Now, as we all know summer can be hectic. There's always something to do, somewhere to go, someone to see, and our weekends just somehow disappear without really knowing where it went. Earlier this week, I came down with some kind of virus and have literally been sick as a dog, or at least the sickest I can remember since high school. And while this is my last day staying home, I felt inspired this afternoon to make my vision into a reality. And you know what, I'm not too disappointed with the outcome :)

I first cleaned the coffee table with water mixed with vinegar - just to clean it and to wipe away old cobwebs, etc. Next, I used some Krud Kutter Gloss Off to remove any of the gloss used originally on the coffee table. I then mixed 2 parts Sherwin Williams ProClassic Interior Acrylic Latex Extra White with 1 parts water (I may not have done this to the exact, I kind of eye balled it) I then painted on the watered down paint trying to brush in the same direction. I wasn't worried about perfecting the strokes or the paint layering, just trying to cover the entire table. After letting the table dry for about 10-15 minutes, I used acrylic paint - teal and gold - the paint over the trimmings. I only waited 10 minutes or so because I still wanted to have a white washing effect with the trims.

An Unwanted Phone Call

I literally just received a pocket dial from my ex. Which angers me in many different ways. 1 - please remove me from wherever it is I am in your phone so that you can no longer pocket dial me. I don't want to hear from you. 2 - I haven't heard from you in over a month, so if you are going to pocket dial me, at least have the respect to explain it rather than ignore my call when I call you back. And to explain why I called back, I deleted your number out of my phone and when I saw a missed call from a random number, I called back because I was home sick from work and wanted to make sure it wasn't work.
